"Campaign for Change"

Each CAB is a member of the national organisation - Citizens Advice. Information is collected from Bureaux about client problems and is used to campaign for changes in services and local or national policies. We have a key role in speaking up for clients, contributing to public debate and helping shape future policies and laws.

Our policy/campaign work covers a huge range of issues including consumer, debt, housing, benefits, immigration, employment, legal matters and health. We work with policymakers, MPs and service providers. Recent examples of Social Policy work include:

Tenancy Deposits – a campaign to promote the tenancy deposit protection scheme to landlords

Tax Credit System Review - Citizens Advice called for a limit to the recovery of overpayments from ongoing tax credit payments to ensure that families cannot be left with weekly incomes below minimum levels. And called for improvements to administration. A subsequent pre budget report from the Chancellor announced key changes to the Tax Credit system. Many of the recommendations made by Citizens Advice were reflected in the report
